European Wine Bloggers' Conference 2008

As remorseless drizzle takes the shine off  yet another day in Cork, here are some jolly photos from the inaugural European wine bloggers' get-together that is currently taking place in Rioja. They could cheer you up, or the opposite, depending on your disposition. I am wondering if my lazy suggestion that a future meeting take place in Cork can possibly ever be worth repeating, in the circumstances.

Thanks Robert, It's been great following what has evidently been such a successful event. Bodes well for years to come all right. I think somewhere sunny would definitely be preferable, and maybe I'll see you there!

Rioja Julian. You should be so lucky. Did you get to see the Gehry hotel down there?

Hello Haydn, country mouse here. I don't go far, much or often - and I didn't in fact go to the conference. But the ol' technology allowed me to enjoy the sights nonetheless. If I ever visit any of our suppliers in that part of the world, I'll try and wangle at least a cup of tea at the Gehry gaff out of them. Might take the taste from the mouth of some of what's built closer to home.

Hi Julian, we did miss some blogging wine importers and wine blogging (micro) retailers at the conference. Next time you HAVE to be there.

Thanks, Emilio! I think the people you describe are pretty thin on the ground for good practical reasons to do with the number of hours in the day! - and, in this corner of the world, the present constraints on fun imposed by the much-trumpeted (tuba-ed? bassoon-ed?) economic gloom. If my grant for being an endangered species comes through, though, I'll certainly do my best next time.
